Flat on My Back

~P. Montgomery

[play mp3 sample]

It’s a mystery how normal people do that.
They see the benefits getting out of bed.
The sun is callin, but my lazy bones say screw that.
I’m flat on my back.

I’m trying to cope, but I’m a dope
that there’s no cure for.
I’m hoping to cope,
but I’m a dope,
that there’s no cure for.

I’ve a history of dodging rhyme or reason.
I’ve never ever owned the mater of a fact.
My body lays here while my brain commits this treason.
I’m flat on my back.

I’m trying to cope, but I’m a dope
that there’s no cure for.
I’m hoping to cope,
but I’m a dope
that there’s no cure for.

I’m learning to cope by smoking dope,
but that’s no cure.

I need to wake up and smell the coffee,
I need to meditate, appreciate my life.
I need to rid myself of thinking awfully.
I should remind myself I’ve got a pretty wife,
I’ve got a pretty good life, I’ve got a pretty wife .

Don’t be wasting time dozin’ on the couch.
It’s a mystery how evolution started.
Just thank your lucky stars it didn’t start with me.
I’d be the single cell that made our race retarded.
I’m flat on my back.

I try to sink but I float, I’m a hopeless boat,
that’s scared of sunshine.
I try to speak but I choke,
I’m a hapless joke without a punch line
I even tried doing coke it left me broke
and now I’m broken.

But I’m still floating…Ahhh
